Review: Be a Bombshell Eye Liner in Onyx

Hi everyone! Today I'll be reviewing a product I received in my Ipsy Glam Bag from October: the Be a Bombshell Eye Liner in Onyx (.1 fl oz ~ $14)

For those who don't know, Ipsy is a monthly beauty subscription service, in which you receive 4-5 deluxe sample or full-sized products a month. You take a quiz when you sign up and supposedly they try to cater to your features (hair, eyes, skin, etc.) but I'm not totally sure if that actually happens. Michelle Phan, a YouTube beauty guru, is a co-founder. Overall, I like it. Like any subscription service, there are good months and bad months, but I have discovered enough good products to stick with it through the bad times. It's $10/month and it's shipped right to your door, and you get a cute reusable cosmetic bag each month in which the products come. It's a fun thing to look forward to each month. To sign up, you can go here. I am not affiliated with this link and (unfortunately) I do not get anything if you sign up. I really wish they would start a loyalty program like Birchbox [which I am not a part of], but I guess they're not popular enough yet.

I have a love-hate relationship with this eyeliner. It's a black marker tip eyeliner with great pigmentation. It dries right away and will not budge (besides the small amount of bleeding upon application that I experienced). It doesn't need sharpening or twisting. You can get a relatively thin line, and it's very easy to get a thick line. However, getting a "thin" line (not as thin as I would like) is almost painful. Unlike a felt or brush tip, this marker tip is almost painful to apply head-on if you want to get said thin line. If you go at it from the side, you wind up unintentionally coating your lower lid in black. Some people have said it glides across their skin, but the marker tends to stick to my skin, so making a cat eye or any sort of winged look is nearly impossible. Also, on the minor side of issues: the tube is kind of thick, making it a little awkward to apply.

If you're interested in trying this product, it can be purchased here for $14 (.1 fl oz) plus a $2 shipping fee. You can either purchase a $50 "Look" kit (ex. Sealed With a Kiss) that includes a full face of makeup products, or you can buy products individually. Will I be repurchasing this product? Most likely not. I know of eyeliners that are cheaper, that can give me a thinner line, and that don't hurt to apply! But I think it's worth a try, if you're interested.

Disclaimer: This product was purchased with my own money. I am in no way being compensated for this review (I wish I was, though!)

  1. Thank you for the review! I know nothing of makeup so things like this are always useful. One question...why are you not a Birchbox member?

    1. Good question! Honestly, I've debated joining multiple times, but I can't see being a part of two monthly subscription services (that's $20 a month alone, and my budget just doesn't allow for that). Plus, the way Birchbox works is that there is a larger selection of products and you will get 4-5 of them (as opposed to everyone getting the same general products, like in Ipsy). I think it's more of a gamble, because out of the larger selection of products, you don't know what you're going to get until it gets to your door. While in Ipsy, you can generally figure out what the products are in the spoilers in the first couple of days in the month. Plus, there's usually a good variety of products. In Birchbox, you could wind up getting three tiny perfume samples and two one-use packets (this is kind of a exaggeration, kind of not, with Birchbox), and I just am not willing to pay $10 for that. Plus I've heard a lot of disappointment with Birchbox on other beauty blogs. So, if I had to pick one, I would definitely pick Ipsy, but I am not discouraging anyone from trying Birchbox! It's just not something I would put my money towards at the moment.

I would love to hear what you have to say! If you would like to exchange blog links, please refrain from doing so in the comments section (as Blogger considers it spam and deletes it sometimes). Thanks for your feedback!
